It's time to meet the inspiration behind our #NoBarriers Bike Challenge. We're so proud to be supporting the Vision Foundation
They believe in a future where people living with sight loss are equal citizens and preventable blindness is a thing of the past. An important part of that is breaking the cycle of unemployment for blind and partially sighted people, this is why we are championing the #SeeMySkills campaign.
Blind and partially sighted people do the vast majority of the jobs that sighted people do. They might do them a little differently – using specialist technology or admin support – but they do them successfully.
Right now, more than 2 million people in the UK are living with sight loss, causing a significant impact on their daily lives. Issues around employment represent one of the biggest barriers to equal participation, with only 1 in 4 blind and partially sighted people of working age in employment, a figure that has worsened in the last decade.
We wanted to support the Vision Foundation in its mission to ensure that everyone, sighted or blind, has the chance to enjoy the independence, purpose and meaning that employment can bring. Not only that, you can see in the video that sight loss holds no barriers to getting out and being active too!
